Configuring delegations and consultations

You can restrict to whom a user can delegate or consult a task. You delegate a task when you want to transfer ownership of the task to another user or share your task so that another user who belongs to a specific group may claim it. You consult a task when you want to assign it to another user to help in completing the task. However, ownership still belongs to the user who consulted the task.

You restrict who a user can delegate or consult a task with by specifying a group of users.

To restrict delegation or consultation of tasks:

  1. Select the Assign Task operation in the process diagram and, in the Properties view, click the Delegation and Consultation category.
  2. In the Forward and Consult list, select either Literal or XPath Expression:

If you select Literal, perform these steps:

    • To restrict forwarding and sharing, perform the following tasks:
        • Select Forward To And Share With Only Members Of This Group and click the Browse button.
        • In the Group Selection box, select a group and click OK.
    • To restrict the group for a consultation, perform the following tasks:
        • Select Consult Only To Members Of This Group and click the Browse button.
        • In the Group Selection box, select a group and click OK.

If you select XPath Expression, build the expression to a variable of type Task Delegate and Consult.
