Prepopulating forms with default data

You can initialize a form to display default data in a form displayed to a user by providing an XML data file. The data you specify must conform to the schema that you use for the form.

You can create the data file as a simple XML file if you understand the schema used for the form. You can use the form to create a data file by performing one of these tasks:

To prepopulate a form using a data file:

  1. In the Variables view, double-click the variable to initialize with default data.
  2. In the Default Data, click Browse.
  3. In the Open dialog box, select the XML or XDP file that contains the default data and click Open. The contents of the file you specified are visible in the Default Data box.
  4. Click OK.

Tip:   An additional benefit of using the data file is that you can use it to provide XPath Builder enough information to help you build XPath expressions to form data that does not have an embedded schema. (See Configuring form fields to appear in XPath Builder.)
