Involving users in processes

When you involve users in a process, you must assign a task to a user. The users or groups you specify can be LiveCycle ES accounts or LDAP accounts. User involved in a process, interact with processes through Workspace ES, email, or custom applications. You must perform these tasks to involve users in a process:

• Add the Assign Task operation (see User service) users to your process diagram and then configure a name, description, and instructions. These properties are displayed to the user as task details in Workspace ES.

  Note:   The text you type as the name for the Assign Task operation is displayed in Workspace ES.

• Assign the user you want involved in the process. You assign a task to a user by using one of the following approaches:
  • Directly to a user. (See Assigning tasks to specific users.)
  • To a group of users. (See Assigning tasks to groups.)
  • Using an XPath expression. (See Assigning tasks using an XPath expression.)
• Assign the form displayed to the user. (See Configuring forms to be displayed to the user.)

To involve a user in a process:

1. In the Services view, select Process Management > User, and drag the Assign Task operation onto your process diagram.
2. In the Properties view, click the General category and perform the following tasks:
   • In the Name box, type a name to replace the default text.
   • In the Description box, type text to describe the purpose of the operation.
3. Click the Task Instructions category and, in the Task Instructions list, select one of these options and type the appropriate text for the instructions, based on your selection:

   template: Specifies that the instructions are based on a combination of strings typed in the box below and XPath expressions wrapped in {$...$} symbols.

   literal value: Specifies that the instructions will be the displayed as typed in the box below the Task Instructions list.

   XPath expression: Specifies that the instructions will be displayed based on a string from an XPath expression.

   Note:   The text you type shows up on the process cards displayed in Workspace ES.
