Creating and deleting categories

Create categories to establish groups of processes and services. When you create a category, you must provide a name. You should also provide a description so that other developers understand the purpose of the category.

Categories can contain processes and services, and can be seen on the Processes view and Services view:

• The Processes view shows only the processes that the categories contain. Also, categories that contain no processes do not appear in the view.
• The Services view shows only the services that the categories contain. Services include those that components provide and those that activated processes provide. All categories appear in the Services view even if they do not contain any services.

You can delete categories when you no longer need them only if they contain no processes or services.

Use the Manage Categories dialog box to create and delete categories. You can also create a category when you create a new process. (See Creating processes.)

To rename a process category after you have created it, you modify the category's properties.

Note:   You cannot rename a category that contains only services.

To create a category:

1. Open the Manage Categories dialog box by using one of the following methods:
   • On the Processes view, click the triangle in the upper-right corner of the view to reveal the command list, and click Manage Categories.
   • On the Processes view, right-click a category and click Manage Categories.
2. Click Add Category.
3. In the Name box, type a name for the category.
4. (Optional) In the Description box, type a description.
5. Click Finish.

To delete a process category:

1. Open the Manage Categories dialog box by using one of the following methods:
   • On the Processes view, click the triangle in the upper-right corner of the view to reveal the command list, and click Manage Categories.
   • On the Processes view, right-click a category and click Manage Categories.
2. Select the category to delete and click Delete Category.

To rename a process category:

1. In the Processes view, right-click the category and click Properties.
2. Change the text in the Name box and click Finish.
