Designing human-centric processes

Human-centric processes involve one or more users in a business process. To participate in processes, users fill forms and submit them to the LiveCycle ES server:

To invoke a process, users can fill a form and submit it.
To complete a step in a process, users open forms that they receive, modify or otherwise use the information they contain, and then submit them back to the LiveCycle ES server.

The services and tools that LiveCycle Process Management ES provides let you create human-centric processes, and let users participate in them:

Variables enable you to store data that is captured using forms and specify the form that is associated with the data.
The User service enables you to assign tasks to users, which sends the user a form to complete as a step in the process.
LiveCycle Workspace ES enables users to access the forms that they are sent and to submit them to complete the tasks. Users can also receive forms and complete tasks using email.
Note: The User service can be used only with Workspace ES and email. To use a different application for enabling users to receive, open, and submit forms, you need to create a custom service for assigning tasks to users. (See LiveCycle ES SDK Help.)

The following steps summarize how to involve users in processes:

Create variables to store form data and identify the forms to use. (See Configuring variables for form data.)
Use the User service to assign tasks to users. (See Involving users in the process.)
Specify how the task can be used in Workspace ES. (See Configuring task functionality.)

After form data is stored in variables, you can access or manipulate the data as required. (See The data model and XML forms.)
