Starting the service

If the server is not already started, you can start it manually. From the Windows Start menu, select Programs > Macromedia > Macromedia Flash Media Server 2> Start Flash Media Admin Server and Flash Media Server. On Windows, to confirm that the service is running, open the Task Manager and make sure that both FMSAdmin.exe and FMSMaster.exe are listed in the Processes tab.

On Linux, open a shell window, change to the directory where you installed Flash Media Server, and, as a root user, type fmsmgr fms server start.

You can see the name of the processes in the Flash Media Server 2 root folder. The default installation location on Windows is: C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Flash Media Server 2.

You can also look in the Services window to see if both the main server and the admin server are running. On Windows, choose Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.
The service names are Flash Media Administration Server and Flash Media Server (FMS).

According to my experience on starting media server.
There are many methods,
Windows operating system:
1->start menu->programes->macromedia->macromedia flash media server2 -> start flash media Admin server2 and start flash media server2
2->start menu->run-> cmd->net start fmsadmin and net start fms
3. creat "fms_start.bat" on your computer desktop and edit it:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /C net start FMS
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /C net start FMSAdmin

linux operating system:
open a shell window and type: service fms start
that's ok!

if you want stop or restart flash media server, only replace "start" as "stop" or "restart".
that's all.
