Overview of Flash Media Server

Flash Media Server provides you with streaming media capabilities and a powerful, flexible development environment. This enables you to create and deliver a wide range of interactive media applications. Use Flash Media Server to create traditional media delivery applications such as video-on-demand, live web event broadcasts, or MP3 streaming. You can also design communication applications like video blogging, video messaging, and multimedia chat environments. Flash Media Server is part of Macromedia's complete solution for database connectivity, directory systems, and presence services, and is the only server that can deliver audio and video to the popular Flash Player.

My Question is this: Are there any hoops to jump thru with my hosting
company? It sounds like I can just upload the Flash Media Server
software onto our server, but most hosting companies FROWN GREATLY
on even the remote possibility of 'installing' software on their servers . . .
what gives? What's the protocol here? Is Adobe making it sound a little
too easy, like, spend the 5 grand, get the software and merrily deploy on
your server -- seems they're leaving out a key step here -- will the server
accept it ???!!

You can purchase a Flash Media Server license and host it on your own servers. Alternately, you can use a web host that already has Flash Media Server installed. Search for "Flash Media Server hosting".
