Programming ActionScript 3.0

This manual provides a foundation for developing applications in ActionScript™ 3.0. To best understand the ideas and techniques described, you should already be familiar with general programming concepts such as data types, variables, loops, and functions. You should also understand basic object-oriented programming concepts such as classes and inheritance. Prior knowledge of ActionScript 1.0 or ActionScript 2.0 is helpful but not necessary.

I am missing documentation about how to build custom Flash CS3 components, either based on the CS3 component framework or build from scratch.

For building components from scratch, try http://www.flashbrighton.org/wordpress/?p=31
(and examine the source of the default components supplied with CS3)

@No screen name:

This manual ("Programming ActionScript 3.0") is specific to ActionScript 3.0, although there are many similarities (but also some important differences) when writing ActionScript 2.0 classes.

The manual "Learning ActionScript 2.0 in Adobe Flash", which is also part of the Flash CS3 documentation, is the ActionScript 2.0 equivalent to this book. That manual includes quite a bit of information about creating custom classes, starting here:
