About Spry 1.4 and Dreamweaver

Spry 1.4 is the version of Spry that’s included with Dreamweaver CS3, so this documentation is designed to work with the Spry assets that Dreamweaver includes. This version of the documentation, however, does not discuss the visual tools that help you build Spry pages in Dreamweaver CS3. For information on how to use Spry tools in Dreamweaver, see Dreamweaver Help.

For the most recent version of the Spry Framework help (i.e., Spry 1.5 and later), visit http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/Spry/SDG/. Future versions of Spry Help might not always be compatible with the current Spry assets that Dreamweaver includes. If you are a Dreamweaver CS3 user and want to use later versions of the Spry framework, make sure you download the latest Spry assets from Adobe Labs as well.

After hours of agony trying to validate my document in dreamweaver cs3 I found this piece of text:

DTDs and Spry
Spry uses namespaced attributes to specify how dynamic regions should be processed at run-time. The Spry team chose to promote the use of namespaced attributes for ease of use. Attributes enabled users to attach complicated Ajax functionality to mark-up using a familiar, declarative coding convention. Other declarative approaches were considered but discarded due to browser limitations.

Using namespaced attributes, however, leads to problems with page validation. Spry attributes are not in the standard DTD used on web pages and therefore, the W3C validator will throw warnings about these attributes. According to the rules of XHTML, these can be solved by writing and including a custom DTD. We note these custom attributes in the Spry DTD. But, there is some browser trouble with this technique. The validator validates, but the browser chokes on the DTD line and displays part of it in the window.

It would be of great help if this was a bit more obvious since it took hours and hours (for me) to find the source to the validation problem. I hope u will concider this so others wont break a leg trying to fix the problem.

Thanks
