I am evaluating whether or not I'll be able to do a great deal of off-line editing in Adobe premiere that can generate an offline version to be on-line edited in Final cut pro at a post house.

First questIon:

My source files are quick time movies which are un compressed, original files from a hard drive that pulled from the HD camera.

Should I request compressed files to use as work copies in premiere? If so, what compression rate or file size should I ask for to use to make the offline edits in Adobe Premiere?

Second question:

Can I then generate an EDL to use for the on-line session which will have to be done in final Cut Pro from th D5 system? I will have multiple source files to pull together i.e. quicktimes, music, narration, stock footage, stills,

I am trying to edit projects which include imported flv. files from YouTube videos.

Because Premier CS3 does not import flv. files, I use a program called REPLAY CONVERTER to convert to a format Premier will accept.

I can convert to AVI (MPEG4) or WMV. YouTube warns against submitting WMV video or flv. files converted from WMV files because of corruption of audio.

When I import AVI (MPEG 4) files into Premier, only the video appears. No audio gets through.

Why can't Premier import and edit flv. files?

Can Premier convert flv. files to regular AVI?

Can Premier import audio from AVI (MPEG 4) files?

Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 does not import or convert FLV files. If it doesn't play the audio in your converted files, it is likely that the audio is in a format that is not supported. The list of supported formats is here: http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/PremierePro/3.0/WSCE104033-D011-4699-84E2-72DE29332157.html.
To request FLV support as a new feature, please use the feature request form, here: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform.

I have a VIXIA HF100 camcorder and i was wondering how to get my clips off the SD memory card and onto my computer. When i tried to transfer them i got a message saying that Premiere Pro doesn't support .mts files. I also tried a card reader and capturing from premiere pro. I'm new to video editing but i heard that this was a good program so i decided to learn a bit on it.

Generally, you would copy the files to a hard disk, then import them from there into an Adobe Premiere Pro project. However, Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 natively imports only the file types listed on this page: http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/PremierePro/3.0/WSCE104033-D011-4699-84E2-72DE29332157.html
