Audio

In Adobe Premiere Pro, you can edit audio, add effects to it, and mix as many tracks of audio in a sequence as your computer system can handle. Tracks can contain mono, stereo, or 5.1 surround channels.

I've had this same problem using a new Sony camera and up to date CS3 software. I don't think Premiere likes the MPEG-2 format or MPG either. I found that if I publish my video clip in MS Movie Maker into an AVI file, Premiere will then recognize the audio track. It makes a big file though, about 5x the size of the original file. I haven't tried converting a MPEG clip from my camera to something else using Premiere, but I wouldn't be surprised if that works too, and possibly other types of more condensed files using Premiere or Movie Maker.

Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 users have posted an interesting work-around for this on the user-to-user forum: http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?14@@.3bc46f4d/14 .

Absolutely worthless in every aspect of the concept. Did nothing but waste my time. This problem still persists. I can see the audio information dancing in the meters, the audio device I need is listed in the input panel but the output panel does not show it. I have not found anyone who knows how to tell Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 how to use the same dad-gum device for out put that it is ALREADY using for input!!! Don't reply with holding down CTRL or SHIFT keys while launching or I will hunt you down and ... back to my problem. What is the secret answer to this problem?

Have you mapped your audio channels to your speakers? See "Map your computer’s audio output to its speakers" toward the bottom of this page: http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/PremierePro/3.0/WS1c9bc5c2e465a58a91cf0b1038518aef7-7f46.html
