About plug‑in modules

Plug‑in modules are software programs developed by Adobe Systems and by other software developers in conjunction with Adobe Systems to add features to Photoshop. A number of importing, exporting, and special-effects plug‑ins come with your program. They are automatically installed in folders inside the Photoshop Plug‑ins folder.

You can select an additional Plug‑ins folder for compatible plug‑ins stored with another application. You can also create a shortcut (Windows) or an alias (Mac OS) for a plug‑in stored in another folder on your system. You can then add the shortcut or alias to the plug‑ins folder and use that plug‑in with Photoshop.

Once installed, plug‑in modules appear as options in the Import or Export menu; as file formats in the Open, and Save As dialog boxes; or as filters in the Filter submenus. Photoshop can accommodate a large number of plug‑ins. However, if the list of installed plug‑in modules becomes too long, Photoshop may not be able to display all the plug‑ins in their appropriate menus. If so, newly installed plug‑ins appear in the Filter > Other submenu.

Just installed Photoshop CS3, but all plugins do not work. I can not scan
with Epson Perfection 2400 scanner as I could with Photoshop CS 2. I
downloaded most recent Epson driver. What steps must I take on my iMac?

Both Photoshop CS3 and your plug-in must be running natively on the Intel platform, or under emulation on Power PC (via Rosetta). Check both the application and the plug-in to see if this is the case. For more information, see the Read Me file that came with Photoshop, and should be in your Photoshop CS3 Applications folder.

If you cannot print or scan in Photoshop CS3 on an Intel-based Mac, please read this Tech Note: http://www.adobe.com/go/kb402022.

How do I open a .wmf image in Photoshop. There seems to be no plug-in for it?

Unless you have a plug-in, you can't open WMF files in Photoshop. If you have Illustrator, you can open WMF files in Illustrator and save them in a format that Photoshop can read. For information on Photoshop plug-ins that let you open WMF files, you can read more about it here: http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.3bc327fb
