Workflow options specify settings for all files output from Camera Raw, including the color bit depth, color space, and pixel dimensions. Workflow options determine how Photoshop opens these files, but do not affect how After Effects imports a camera raw file. Workflow settings do not affect the camera raw data itself.
You can see and change these Workflow settings at the bottom of the Camera Raw dialog box.
For square-pixel cameras, choosing a smaller-than-native size can speed processing when you are planning a smaller final image. Picking a larger size is similar to upsampling in Photoshop.
For non-square pixel cameras, the native size is the size that most closely preserves the total pixel count. Selecting a different size minimizes the resampling that Camera Raw needs to perform, resulting in slightly higher image quality. The best quality size is marked with an asterisk (*) in the Size menu.
How do you change the defaults now? This was easy in CS2...johanndm said on Jun 2, 2007 at 4:04 AM :

Agreed, Camera Raw now defaults to 240ppi in the workflow - and I keep forgetting to set it back to 300. How do we set the defaults for workflow? No screen name said on Jun 9, 2007 at 11:00 AM :
I don't see a response to the previous question. I can't find the answer in the Photoshop CS3 manual or in help. What is the purpose of this database if you don't answer questions?au2045 said on Jun 21, 2007 at 9:52 PM :
Is there a way to set 16 bit as the default for when Camera Raw 4.0 is opened from Bridge? (or for that matter to save pre-sets for any of these workflow options)No screen name said on Jul 16, 2007 at 7:08 AM :

This worked a lot better in CS2---at least it was more obvious. Too bad there wasn't presets that could be loaded along with the Develop Settings. Hiding this like it is in CS3 often results in files being opened and worked on in 8 bit instead of 16 bit, too small of size/resolution. Could an option be added to revert to the obvious layout used in CS2?bobmcgin said on Mar 1, 2008 at 6:04 PM :
Looking at camera info and then bringing raw cr2 into CS3. Why areNo screen name said on Sep 16, 2008 at 2:08 PM :
the dimensions of the picture so small in raw.
a 3888 x 2592 picture is only 16.2 x 10.8 dimension when reading your
help under raw size it says that a 2048 x1536 resolution becomes a
281/2 x 21 1/4 picture.
I'm expecting much bigger pictures using raw and having the resolution I'm getting from my Camera.
Thanks,
Bob
I want to save the resolution at 300 ppi when using the workflow options.
How do I change the default to save my preferences? Thank you.

Click the text under the image--the underlined text that describes the color space, bit depth, size, and resolution of the image. Change your desired parameter(s) in the Workflow Options dialog box, and then click OK. When you save the image (click Done), the edited options will "stick" for other images opened in Camera Raw.
