No screen name said on Nov 2, 2007 at 6:10 AM :
A while ago, I posted a question on how to hide Lightroom from the window screen. I asked that question because everytime I launch Lightroom its interface covers the entire window screen. After posting the question I went back and launched Lightroom and clicked the Window menu. There I found out that by clicking 'screen mode' then 'standard screen mode', the standard screen size of Lightroom appeared with the usual 3 icons of hide, minimize, and exit already in view. So that's it - my answer to my own question.

I have 9000 pictures on my hard disk and in the Lightroom catalogue. I want
to transfer the files to an external hard disk. How to do this without
Lightroom losing track of them?

For two tutorials on moving catalogs, go to http://learn.adobe.com/wiki/display/LR/Create+and+manage+catalogs+-+Learn+More.
