Photoshop Lightroom

Export a slideshow

You can export a slideshow as a PDF file so that you can play it on other computers or distribute it to clients and other viewers. PDF slideshow transitions work when viewed using the free Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat. Exported slideshows don’t include music, randomized images, or the duration settings you specify.

  1. In the Slideshow module, click Export on the lower right.
  2. In the Export Slideshow To PDF dialog box, type a name for the slideshow in the File Name (Windows) or Save As (Mac OS) text box.
  3. Navigate to and select a location to save the slideshow file.
  4. Set the following options:
    Quality
Renders each slide at a specified JPEG quality setting. Lower quality slides yield a smaller slideshow file size. Drag the Quality slider or enter a numeric value from 0 to 100 (with 100 representing the highest quality, and 0 representing the lowest).
Note: Photos are embedded with sRGB profiles.

    Width and Height
Specify the pixel dimensions for the slideshow. Lightroom resizes the slides to fit within the dimensions without cropping or changing the slide’s aspect ratio. The pixel dimensions of your computer display are the default size.

    Automatically Show Full Screen
Displays slides at the full size of the screen that the slideshow is displayed on. The full-screen option works when the slideshow is played in Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat.

  5. Click Export.

my show is corrupt; I exported multiple times, and same message.
I exported the NEFF files to jpg's in a new folder; imported those to LR, to
make slide show. What is wrong?

Is there any other way to export a slideshow? Now, i know i can view the slideshow in PDF file and i can burn it to a CD and show it on other computers. But, i want to view it on a T.V.; is there a way to burn it on a disk and view it on a T.V. I tried before to view it on a T.V. but it doesn't show data or pdf files it just showes pictures. But the CD is in a PDF file.

PDF is currently the only export option for slideshows, and you can't play PDFs on a DVD player. If you have Photoshop Elements, you can create a slideshow and export it as a WMV file, which you can burn to a CD. In most cases, movies on CDs appear choppy during playback, so the best option is to burn the slideshow to a DVD file. Premiere Elements lets you do that. You can even add menus.

To pause/resume the slideshow, press Ctrl+Spacebar (Windows) or Command+Spacebar (Mac OS)

When creating a PDF in Photoshop, you can set the security settings so that the slides can not be printed or copied. Is there a way to do this in Lightroom?
No screen name said on Jun 25, 2007 at 7:52 AM :
No, not in Lightroom, but you can change security settings to the exported PDF in Adobe Acrobat if you own a copy.

When I export to PDF Lightroom just resumes as normal. There is no hourglass or information supplied that informs me the PDF is complete. When I go to file manager I see the file growing in size as the processing is underway. How do I know when the PDF creation process is complete? Now I just wait and guess based upon time and system activity seeming to cease.

After you click Save in the Export Slideshow to PDF dialog box, a progress bar appears in the upper-left corner of the application window.

To change the slide duration of a PDF slide show to a value greater than 20 (the maximum Lightroom allows), open the PDF in a hex editor and follow these steps:
1. Subtract the "Fades" time from the "Slides" time.
2. Replace "Dur *", where * is the time from step 1, with "Dur **", where ** is the desired time in seconds.

I exported a slide show and did not realize that some of the photos did not have the source images available (only the previews in LR). There was no indication that there were any problems with the export. When I played the PDF that was generated, some of the images were missing and just showed a red slash. BTW, if the slash is supposed to represent the international "not" symbol, I believe it should be a back slash, not a forward slash.

If this was the intended operation then it's not technically a bug but just a poor user interface design. LR should have let me know that my slideshow was incomplete. Imagine sending this to a client.

Was there a setting or option that I missed?

Hi,
after exporting a slideshow (with 78 photos) it runs fine. But only once! After the last photo it stops. I didn't found how to "tell" the pdf that it should repeat endless.
Anyone who can help me?
I use version 1.4.1

Best regards

I was very disappointed, when I first exported a slideshow from lightroom. No music ? It was playing my chosen music in the preview, but thats it.
On the net I found out, that I could semi do-it using Adobe Acrobat Reader professional....

I used Microsoft's Photostory 3 (freeware) instead. Gives me the cool good looking transtions with very little effort, and blends with the music sooo sweet. But the codecs are so propretary...
Then I used ConvertXtoDVD to make a DVD for the customer.

Wouldnt it be nice , if Adobe took the good stuff from Photostory, and implementetd it in Lightroom to make totally superior music slideshows ?
And if they could make it possible to export it to Adobe Quicktime mov format or some other mpeg 2 or 4 format, that would be really useful. Especcially for pro-users of SmugMug.

I would be prepared to pay 20-30% more for lightroom, if Adobe could add the functions and ease of use from PhotoStory to Lightroom, and make an export choice between pdf and mov ...

All PDF attempts have generated fuzzy edged text. So frustrating.

How do I obtain crisp copy.

Also in the slideshow window am I correct that the format of the slideshow
page in the editing window cannot be changed. It appears to be approx A4
landscape. Format changes only seem to be possible when the export menu
appears. It would be useful if that change in page format could appear in the
Slideshow window.

(Mac pro 2x2.66 Ghz Dual Core Intel Xeon, OSX 10.5.3, LR 1.4.1)

Any advice on optimising PDF quality appreciated.

Peter
