About Auto Import

The Auto Import feature automatically imports photos into the Lightroom library by monitoring a watched folder for photos and then moving the photos into a managed folder in the library. The feature has many uses. For example, if your camera manufacturer’s software provides a tethered connection feature and can download the photos to a watched folder, Lightroom can monitor the folder and automatically import the photos as they’re being taken. Auto Import does not import images from a subfolder of a Watched folder.

When I use Auto Import in with my camera in tethered connection through Canon's EOS Utility, the "Import Photos" dialogue comes up after every picture taken. This is unworkable. It should automatically import ALL pictures taken. Why call it Auto Import if it needs manual interference?. Is there a way to circumvent this dialogue?

Make sure that the camera's utility is NOT chosen as an external editor in Lightroom Preferences. Then specify a Watched Folder in the Auto Import Settings Dialog that your camera's software will download to. Lightroom will watch the folder an import the images as your camera downloads them.

When using my Nikon D2x and WT-2A wireless adapter with Lightroom I have the best results by enabling the built in FTP service on XP. I configure the FTP home directory to a temp location. I setup a directory named "c:\lightroom.temp" and then have Lightroom's auto-import function move those files into my main Lightroom archive folder as it imports into the database. With this configuration you don't require additional software such as Nikon' USB connection and Nikon Capture. One application does it all.

With Lightroom Auto Import I can find nothing in the Preferences that allows
me to not use the Camera's (Canon) utility. EOS Utility comes up and
nothing goes to Lightroom. It worked correctly a year ago, but when I have
tried to use it recently, it does not work. I have worked with it for hours now,
and nothing seems to work. A good camera, a good computer, a good
program, but they do not work together. There must be something that the
operator is doing wrong. Please help.
