How can I specify that backups in lightroom go to my external hard drive?
Anita Dennis said on Oct 1, 2007 at 8:32 AM :
In the Catalog Settings dialog, specify how frequently you want Lightroom to perform automatic backups. Then, when you launch Lightroom and it detects that it's time for a backup, a reminder dialog will appear, and you can specify where you want to save the backup.

How can I have the XMP data automatically go into the same folder as the image it goes with?
Thanks
Anita Dennis said on Oct 2, 2007 at 1:09 PM :
XMP sidecar files are saved in the same folder with the associated image.

How does one specify a different, non-default location for catalog files?
Anita Dennis said on Oct 8, 2007 at 8:08 PM :
You can create new catalogs and specify any location for them when you create them. If you want to move the default Lightroom catalog, you should export it. See http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/Lightroom/1.0/WSBED0E080-63AF-4ba4-ACCF-EC48C4F92D6D.html.

I did something and I don't know if there is a way to correct it or not. I had am automatic backup done on the 15th. Impoorted some photos on the 16th and did a shoot last night. Imported those photos worked on them and exported the worked on photos.

Today, the 17th, I got looking in the lightroom files and saw the backup folders. I clciked on the lastest backup of 10/15/07 and it launched it. It opened up lighrrom. When I went back into lightroom later on, to my horror I found that everything I had done since the backup had been wiped out!

I was able to reimport the worked on files but I did lose all the history of the steps I took to get them to their final stage.

Question.... Is everything truly lost by doing the relaunch (which I didn't realize would happen when you clicked on it, dumb me)?

Shouldn't there be a prompt asking if you really want to do this relaunch before it happens? Adobe - build in a prompt so curious people like me don't screw up our files and work when we don't really mean to!

Comments and insight appreciated.

Is it possible to set up LR on a server so that other work stations can access the full record of images and data? I have a server, but it has been suggested that LR and its backup data have to reside on the one work station.
Anita Dennis said on Mar 17, 2008 at 9:34 AM :
No, Lightroom 1.x does not support a server workflow.

how many generations of backup files should I keep?

How long until Lightroom will be able to process the Canon Picture Styles like DxO? I find that the oranges and yellows are very dull to non-existent on some shots.

Is it possible to retrieve photos from a corrupted catalogue?
Lightroom crashed before I exported about 100 photos and I'm wondering if
I can retrieve these photos somehow to save time to re-do my post
production.
