You can import paragraph and character styles from another InDesign document (any version) into the active document. During import, you can determine which styles are loaded and what should occur if a loaded style has the same name as a style in the current document. You can also import styles from an InCopy document.
You can also use the Books feature to share styles. (See Synchronize book documents.)
You can also import styles this way with no document open. If you do so, the loaded styles will also be provided for all new documents.Newwest employee said on Jul 23, 2008 at 8:48 AM :
I've been trying to figure out how to import styles from one document to another. I cannot for the life of me locate "Load Character Syles" or "Load Paragraph Styles" anywhere in InDesign. So short of re-creating the text by writing down what I did in another document, I am at a loss for how to get them into the new document. Even the HELP feature isn't very helpful.

The "Load" commands are located on the flyout menu that appears when you click the icon in the upper right corner of the panel. If you still can't see them, leave another comment, and I'll reply to you directly. No screen name said on Oct 14, 2008 at 1:03 PM :
Is there a way to save paragraph styles or make them default styles so that, when you open a new document those paragraph style are available?

Yes, close all documents and then create or load styles. Any style you add in the "no document" state will appear in new documents.
