Where did the file .htaccess.addHandlerBak come from and what is it. It was added to my website files panel in Dreamweaver since the last time I was in Dreamweaver. It doesn't seem to have affected my website but I have a hard time opening Dreamweaver. Can I delete it?

.htaccess files are server files, usually for password-protecting files or directories. Did you use an admin tool to password-protect a file or directory on your site? It not, I'd be suspicious of its origins. A quick search for .htaccess.addHandlerBak on Google yields several spam sites and a report of suspicious activity on the WordPress forums, so this seems like a file that would not only be safe to delete, but wise.

I am using Dreamweaver CS3, but my text book is Macromedia Dreamweaver 8, On this task, it is asking me to choose insert> Layout Objects > Layer, however this is not available, how do I insert a layer in CS3? Thanks for any help.

Insert > AP Div. "Layers" are just elements with CSS position: absolute. The "AP" in AP Div stands for "absolutely positioned".
