Setting Remote Info category options

The purpose of this dialog box is to select an access method for Dreamweaver to upload or download files to your web server where your remote folder (also known as a remote site) is located.

To select an access method:

  1. Select an access method from the pop-up menu. The dialog box changes depending on your selection. Select one of the following:

    None if you do not plan to upload your site to a server.

    Local/Network if you are accessing a network folder or if you are running a web server on your local machine.

    FTP if you connect to your web server using FTP.

    RDS (Remote Development Services) if you connect to your web server using RDS.

    For this access method, your remote folder must be on a computer running ColdFusion.

    SourceSafe Database if you connect to your web server using a SourceSafe Database.

    SourceSafe Database support is only available for Windows. To use SourceSafe with Windows, you must have Microsoft Visual SourceSafe Client version 6 installed.

    WebDAV (Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning) if you connect to your web server using the WebDAV protocol.

    For this access method, you must have a server that supports this protocol, such as Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) 5.0 and Apache web server.

  2. Complete the dialog box depending on the access method you selected:

    None Skip this step.

    Local/Network and FTP access See the appropriate section to complete the dialog box:

    5. RDS, SourceSafe Database, or WebDAV Select the Enable File Check In and Check Out option and the Automatically Upload Files to Server on Save option, then click the Settings button. See the appropriate section to complete the Settings dialog box:

  8. Click OK to close the Remote Info category of the Site Definition dialog box.
