Define a Dreamweaver site

Normally, you would start creating a website by planning it: figuring out how many pages to create, what content appears on each page, what the page layouts should look like, and how the pages are connected to each other. However, the sample site described in these tutorials is a very simple one, so it doesn't need very much planning; it consists of only a few web pages, with links between them. So for this site, you can proceed directly to setting up your local site.

To set up a local site using the sample files, first copy the sample files to a local folder and then create a Dreamweaver site definition to allow you to manage the files within Dreamweaver.

Note: Macromedia HomeSite and ColdFusion Studio users can think of a Dreamweaver site as being like a HomeSite or Studio project.

To set up a local site:

  1. Copy the sample files to a folder on your hard disk (see Copy the sample files).
  2. Define the folder as a Dreamweaver local folder (see Define a local folder using the Site Definition Wizard).
  3. Define a folder on a web server as a Dreamweaver remote folder (see Define a remote folder).
  4. Upload the sample files to the web server (see Upload your local files).
