I don't have a ColdFusion MX installation handy to check this, but I believe that the following is true:

In the ColdFusion MX release, the function IsXMLElem exits, but it is incorrectly documented in the reference as IsXMLElement. The correct information is included in the ColdFusion MX 6.1 documentation at http://livedocs.macromedia.com/coldfusion/6.1/htmldocs/funct145.htm
