* ColdFusion MX only supports the built-in web server for this platform. Macromedia does not recommend using the built-in web server in a production environment.

† To install ColdFusion MX in Windows NT 4.0, or Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows 2003, you must already have the following components installed: MDAC 2.6 SP2 (www.microsoft.com/data/download.htm) and the Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 runtime http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;259403).

ColdFusion MX does not include the driver for this database. For more information, see Connecting to an external JDBC Type 4 data source.

After you install the Visual C++ 6.0 runtime components, you must manually copy msvcp60.dll from the install directory to the system32 Directory.

A few more clarifications. MDAC is only required if you are using the ODBC Type III database drivers or the Unicode/Access database driver.

From the MSVC runtime, you also need msvcrt.dll.

Runtime modules should be in the windows\system32 directory (this might also be named WINNT\system32).

About missing msvcp60.dll when installing CF MX on W2000 advanced server, a 'simple solution' to solve this problem... install DirextX9

Tried the install of directx 9 on my windows 2000 server and it DID NOT install the msvcp60.dll. YMMV

What is the purpose of macromedia?

Note there are certain Windows OS's that don't come with a default JRE so you may need to download on of the ones listed in the above system requirements. Without a JRE applet rendering in the CF Admin may cause an error. See this tech doc for more details:
http://www.macromedia.com/support/coldfusion/ts/documents/admin_jre.htm

"By default, a JVM is not included with Windows Server 2003, the original version of Windows XP, or Windows XP SP1a, but the Microsoft VM may be present on these systems if you upgrade over a previous version of Windows that included the Microsoft VM, or if the Microsoft VM was installed by a third party."

NOTE: This package does not install these components on computers that are running Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows Millennium (Me) systems. On computers that are running Windows 2000 and Windows Millennium, these components can only be updated through operating system updates and service packs for these operating systems.

Does MDAC 2.6 and the Visual C++ runtimes need to be installed on windows 2003 servers? I thought windows 2003 servers included mdac 2.8?
