these are not read-only. They can be modified without error. Why?

This is a doc bug. It should use the term "reserved" instead of read-only. This has been entered as bug 53618.

If Macromedia recognizes a doc bug then why does it not change the doc? Documentation is one of the most important tools for a developer and I notice a lot of corrections noted in the comments instead of the body of the doc.

I agree. I have seen many comments throughout the entire Macromedia ColdFusion documentation online where people point out the mistype (and a likely fix or update). Soon after a Macromedia representative types a long sentence stating that they've gone ahead to use more of their time to enter the typo into their bug tracking system. A year later the error still exists (many times just one or two simple words needing to be retyped).

Many of these problems still exist in the CF6.0 documetation (current release as of this post is CF6.1). Which makes me wonder if Macromedia plans on leaving many of these mistakes because the CF Blackstone documentation will be out soon.

Documentation is too important to developers. I know Macromedia makes an effort (and I really do appreciate their online updated documentation), but if possible please make a better effort to make the update (especially when it is a simple one).

The ColdFusion documentation team uses LiveDocs comments
to fix the next release. We do not typically go back and
update the original LiveDocs page, using the comment, itself,
as a form of documentation.

We understand that, in a perfect world, the ColdFusion
Documentation group would update LiveDocs pages as problems
are noted. For a variety of reasons, however, we are unable
to do this for ColdFusion MX and ColdFusion MX 6.1. We are
working on processes that will enable live updates to LiveDocs
in the future.
