Special note about Flash Media Server version 2.0.1 license profiles

Flash Media Server version 2.0.1 supports the use of license profiles. Three default license profiles are automatically installed in the licenses folder. License profiles use the .pro file extension. Only one profile can be active at a time. You can set or modify the current, active license profile at any time.

To set or modify the current, active license profile:

1. Navigate to the Flash Media Server 2 folder. By default, Flash Media Server 2 is installed in the following location:
C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Flash Media Server 2\

2. Select the conf folder.

3. Open the fms.ini file.

4. n fms.ini, locate the configuration key named SERVER.ACTIVE_PROFILE.

5. Set the value of SERVER.ACTIVE_PROFILE to the filename of the license profile you would like to use. (The license profile name may or may not use the .pro extension; when you input the active profile name in the FMS.ini file you don't have to use the .pro extension.)

The licenses folder contains signed Flash Media Server licenses (LIC files) for the following license types: FMS2 Origin Servers, FMS2 Edge Servers, and custom license types (e.g., licenses for hosting partners and OEM customers). Flash Media Server analyzes the LIC files to establish the correct, licensed capabilities.

It is important to note that the Professional Edition of Flash Media Server uses serial numbers instead of LIC files. Serial numbers should be entered in the LICENSES tab of the Management Console.

Note: This licensing information can also be found in the Flash Media Server 2 documentation errata located here: http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashmediaserver/2/fms2_errata/

It should be noted that a Flash Media Server 2 Edge Server license is required in order to configure FMS2 to run as an edge servers. Professional Editions can not be configured to run as an edge server.
