Please note that an error in your server-side script can cause FileReference.upload() to fail silently.

I had some code, a basic file uploader, with a dummy response script in PHP. My uploads kept failing; no progress, no complete, not even an HTTP status response. I registered for every event and every error; nothing. I wrapped the function call in try..catch - nothing.

Eventually I tried changing my PHP code from... whatever it was; I can't help there, sorry. However, I just changed it to print_r($_POST) and suddenly my script worked perfectly.

So be aware that your server-side script might be a factor if your code is failing silently.

Do you mean that you want to know the local path of the file (i.e. the location where the file is located on the user's hard drive)?

That's intentionally hidden, for security reasons -- there's no way to access it in ActionScript (for Flash Player). If you're writing an application that needs that functionality, perhaps creating a desktop application targeting Adobe AIR would be more appropriate (it does allow you to access file locations among many other things).
