It should be noted this page makes no mention of the possibility of using createobject to call Java objects. It implies only CFOBJECT can be used. This should be corrected in future versions of the docs. Fortunately, a later section showing examples of calling Java from CFML does in fact show use of the function (http://livedocs.adobe.com/coldfusion/7/htmldocs/00001570.htm). The same issue is in the CF8 docs, and I'll add a comment there, too.

<cfobject type="Java" class="MyClass" name="myObj">

The example of invoking a Java object would appear to be missing an Action attribute - which my CF7.0.2 seems to require.

Although JRun does perform autocompilation and detection of changed classes, ColdFusion does not. I suppose that it is possible you can get automatic recompilation with a servlet or a JavaBean (that is, something with no connection to ColdFusion MX), but for anything that goes through ColdFusion (such as a CFC, CFM page, or custom tag), there is no automatic recompilation.

If you are using a servlet and not getting this functionality, check to see that the reload and compile elements are set to true in the WEB-INF/jrun-web.xml file:

<reload>true</reload>
<compile>true</compile>
