We run windows 2003 web ed without any problem with remote data access.

I have a question, however, what Windows user account is recommeded to run ColdFusion on a server with multiple sites?

We "discovered" the problem. On an install of CFMX 6.1 to a Windows 2003 Web Edition Server (which came straight out of the box), we cannot access other drives on our LAN. Specifically, we cannot get our remote mail service to verify, and CF doesn't find data on mapped drives. CFMX 6.1 works fine in our environment using Windows 2000. It would appear to be a Permissions / Authentication issue, but we can't find any documentation that cover this. Anyone having difficulties installing CFMX 6.1 on a Windows 2003 Web Edition server?

I suppose it could be better worded as something like: "If you have problems accessing items on remote servers, ..."

"If you discover that the user account under which ColdFusion MX runs has an inappropriate level of access--for example, to interact with remote data sources, other application pages, and COM objects--you should change the user account."

What do you mean, "If you discover...?"

You make it sound like this fact is hidden.
