Since CFML is not a case-sensitive language, some expressions, like:
<cfset x = SESSION.TestName>
will only find a J2EE session variable named TESTNAME or testname.

If the J2EE variable name is in quotes case is preserved. For example:
<cfset x = SESSION["TestName"]>
will find either TestName or testname.

In general, CFMX can always find an all-lowercase variable name.

Shouldn?t the getpageContext().forward, effectively halts processing of the current page at the point where redirection occur? It does not seem to be doing that. Secondly, I was expecting the forwarding to also forward the 'request and response', including the request parameters. That does not seem to be happening, or am I missing something.

Couple more items:

1) make sure the .get() stuff is on the same line as your reference to the session and application object in your JSP page

2) 'myvariable' needs to be 'myVariable' for the request object

3) I keep getting null for the request variable and the session variable. The application variable is ok.

Your code should look like this:
<%@page import="java.util.*" %>

Hello <%= request.getParameter("name")%>!

Request.myVariable: <%= request.getAttribute("myVariable")%>

session.myVariable: <%= ((Map)(session.getAttribute("myApp"))).get("myVariable")%>

Application.myVariable: <%= ((Map)(application.getAttribute("myApp"))).get("myVariable")%>
