Using a variable

The following steps describe how to use a variable.

To use a variable:

1. Select the location where you want to use the variable:
   • If you're using the variable in a statement, expression, or function in a Calculation window, set up whatever precedes the variable. Then select where you want to place the variable.
   • If you're using a variable in a dialog box field, display the dialog box and position the cursor in that field.
   • If you're using the variable within a statement or expression in a dialog box field, set up whatever precedes the variable. Then position the cursor where you want to place the variable.
2. Select Window > Variables.

3. From the Category pull-down list, select the category that contains the variable you want to use.

   If you don't know which category the variable is in, select All.

4. Select the variable from the list.

   Type the first few letters of the variable's name to scroll to the variable in the list.

5. Click Paste.

   Authorware pastes the variable at the cursor location.

6. Click Done to close the Variables dialog box.
