Using the Get RTF Object Text Range Knowledge Object

The Get RTF Object Text Range Knowledge Object returns a specified range of text for an existing RTF object that has been previously created using the Create RTF Object Knowledge Object.

To start the Get RTF Object Text Range Knowledge Object:

  1. Create an RTF Knowledge Object. See Creating an RTF Object Knowledge Object.
  2. Drag a Get RTF Object Text Range icon from the Knowledge Objects window to the flowline.

If you have not saved your file, you will be prompted to do so. Click OK, then enter a filename.

The Get RTF Object Text Range: Introduction screen is displayed.

  3. Click Next, or select ID.

The Get RTF Object Text Range: ID screen is displayed.

  4. Enter the name of the variable for the RTF object ID you'd like to retrieve a range of text from.

The RTF object ID variable name is identified by an equal sign at the beginning of your entry--for example, =MyVariable.

This is the object ID for an RTF object previously created using the Create RTF Object Knowledge Object.

  5. Click Next, or select Range.

The Get RTF Object Text Range: Range screen is displayed.

  6. In the StartPos field, enter the starting position for the text you would like to retrieve. This is the starting position if you counted the characters in an RTF document, where the position of the first character is 0. For example, the position of the second character is 1; the tenth character is at position 9.

You can specify a variable value for the start position by putting an equal sign at the beginning of your entry--for example, =MyVariable.

  7. Select one of the following options to enter the ending position of the text you want to retrieve.
  8. Click Next, or select Text variable name.

The Get RTF Object Text Range: Text variable range screen is displayed.

  9. Enter a variable name for the text range you indicated by the starting and ending positions.

The text or phrase in the specified range is assigned to this variable when the Knowledge Object is encountered in the flowline.

  10. Click Done, or select Finish.

If you have not previously created the variable, you will be prompted to do so. Click Yes.

You must distribute RTFObj.u32 with your piece. This Knowledge Object copies this file to the same location as your piece.
