After you have created an RTF document using the RTF Objects Editor, you use the Create RTF Object Knowledge Object to provide an RTF Object ID variable name for the RTF document so that you can import it into your Authorware piece.
Note: Do not import an RTF document created using the RTF Objects Editor into a display icon. If you do, the RTF document will not be able to access the RTF Objects Editor features you used to create or edit the file, such as imported graphics, Authorware expressions, or special formatting.
If you have not previously saved your Authorware file, you are prompted to save it.
The Create RTF Object: Introduction screen is displayed.
Tip: If you change the location of the RTF document, or delete it, when an RTF Knowledge Object is run, the RTF document will not be found. Instead of running the Knowledge Object, Authorware will display the directory path and filename of the RTF document.
Note: You may want to create your RTF object once at the beginning of your piece, and then make it visible or invisible later on instead of deleting and then re-creating the RTF object. Alternately, you may want to bring up a picture--for example, a dialog box--and display it over the RTF object without having to display the picture on some higher layer, for example, as part of some perpetual response. Making the RTF object visible or invisible allows you to do this. See also Using the Show or Hide RTF Object Knowledge Object.
If you select Scrolling, the RTF object appears with a vertical scroll bar, which is useful for displaying large amounts of text or blocks of text that vary in length. If you create a scrolling RTF object, you can drag the RTF object's handles to resize it.
To create an RTF object using all pages, leave the default of 0 for both the start page and the end page.
To create an RTF object using a range of pages in your RTF file, enter a literal or variable value for StartPage and for EndPage. Your RTF Object is created from Start Page to End Page, reading the <Page Break> tags in your RTF document.
If your variable does not exist, the following alert box appears:
If the procedure to create your object was successful, the Create RTF Object: Finish screen is displayed.
The Create RTF Object icon is displayed on the flowline.
When you run your piece, the Create RTF Object Knowledge Object creates an RTF object inside the Presentation window. RTFObj.U32 pre-processes your document before it is turned into an RTF Object. During this pre-processing phase, all embedded and linked expressions, variables, images, and text is processed.
You must distribute RTFObj.u32 with your piece. The Create RTF Object Knowledge Object copies this file to same location as your piece.
Note: If you need to change any of the settings, double-click the Create RTF Object icon on the flowline to open the Create RTF Object Knowledge Object screen. Select any of the settings you want to change. When you are finished, click Done.
